Jayne Babine feverishly typed her notes while sitting comfortably on the pillows as our guru told stories of the healing powers of herbs, essential oils, and sound therapy. I could see her brain working as she processed the information. Her ability to focus (and listen) was impressive — the class leaned on each other to ensure we heard the dosage or ingredient accurately.
We eventually got acquainted as the class gathered around the teaching kitchen month after month dissecting the procurement and preparation of a meal focused on the dosha for the season. Our mouths would water and stomachs gurgle as we patiently waited to eat the lesson and sit together in small groups — many times in silence. I was inspired by Jayne’s mischievous grin and quick wit as we navigated new ways of thinking while ensuring we grounded ourselves along the way. She unknowingly reminded me that we do not have to constantly reinvent ourselves as life drastically changes yet simply focus on bringing the best of ourselves forward. Thank you Jayne for your many gifts.

Living Full Circle Excerpt by Jayne Babine
I am a wife, and a mother to my three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and am re-identifying and redefining my career as a working mother while trying to keep life in balance without losing myself and disregarding my own needs.
Five years ago, my daily routine changed forever, as I stopped using body moisturizer and replaced it with a massage oil blend. I found an incredible Ayurvedic practitioner in New York City who introduced me to her doshic body oils. She advised me to use her proprietary blend of Vata dosha balancing massage oil between our regular monthly massage sessions. After five years of regular monthly Ayurvedic massages and integrating the body oil blends with my post-shower routine (see Tranquil Shower, page 58 of Living Full Circle), I felt profound changes to my vibrational awareness, which helped me manage my demanding and stressful career in media and advertising data analytics and technology.
I felt the need to seek a deeper understanding of Ayurveda in a classroom setting and to meet other like-minded, interesting people. My energetic senses have opened up, gained in strength, and led me to discover other modalities like sound healing, which I also now enjoy in regular sessions. During my work sabbatical in September 2017, I enrolled and became certified in a level-one aromatherapy program to learn about the healing properties of essential oils.
Ancient Ritual: Self-massage
- Pick a nourishing oil that is right for your skin type (coconut oil is generally a good choice).
- After showering, moisturize the entire body using the oil.
- Massage the body specifically in circular motions around the elbow, knee, and ankle joints.
- Massage the abdomen in the direction of the flow of indigestible matter through the colon: upward on the right abdomen, across right to left at the top of the abdomen, and then downward on the left abdomen.
